Ironmongery project Specifying

Due to the wide ranges of products available on the market, is it crucial to have an ironmongery specification done for your project. At CTS we take the whole project into consideration: Functionality, Durability, Architectural Aesthetics, Regulations and fit for purpose products.

Ideally the process for a specification should start before window and door schedules have been finalized. After a discussion with the architect and client, we can advise on certain door and window systems that would complement the design and way of living in the property. There is also always the question of what is possible or not and how far we can go with bespoke doors and windows. Will the ironmongery and systems available limit this or assist to go even further.

After types of systems have been chosen, manufacturing details can be discussed with a door and window manufacturer. The architect can then finalize a qualified door and window schedule from which a specification can be done where all the window and door fittings can match in design and finish.

Door and window systems are the parts of the door and window you normally don’t see, but it is essential in the working of the unit. With CTS working mostly with bespoke door and window manufacturers this is an important product line for us to enable our clients to receive a product that works as intended.

CTS uses professional specifying software to give the client a clear idea of what products have been specified, the quantities and costs. We supply the contractor with a site copy to assist their installers and store managers in using the correct items on the correct units. This booklet then also contains the necessary installation procedures, cleaning and maintenance requirements as well as product certificates for items such as door closers and panic hardware.

Delivery

We deliver products to our clients in the Winelands and Cape Town area free of charge. Other areas we may charge a fee depending on the type, quantity of items and size of project. We can also arrange courier services for small orders. Products can be packed and sealed by set and numbered per door, we do however prefer not to do this due to the installation process on site and the difficulty the contractor has in controlling the stock for the entire process.

Project involvement

Normally CTS are involved in a project from the initial discussion till right to the end. We assist the contractor and architect with installation advice and resolve unforeseen problems and project design changes that might occur. We can also assist the architect/contractor by checking each door and window to confirm that products are correctly installed and working, also to provide them with snag list on these items if necessary.
